Universal Voting Rights for Haitians Abroad

Every Haitian should have the right to vote, regardless of where they reside. The right to vote is a cornerstone of democracy, and it is essential that all Haitians, including those living abroad, can exercise this right. We expand on the idea that every Haitian should have the opportunity to participate in their country's elections

  • Haitians should be able to vote in national elections, regardless of their location. To achieve this, a voting system accessible through Haitian embassies and consulates in their respective countries should be established, in accordance with Haitian election law.

  • To facilitate this process, Haitian embassies and consulates abroad must be equipped to manage and organize the voting of Haitian citizens, while adhering to Haitian election laws. This includes:

    1. Registration: Haitian citizens residing abroad must register at their nearest embassy or consulate to be eligible to vote.

    2. Voting Booths: Setting up secured voting booths at these locations during election periods. At times several locations might be needed to accommodate the size of the Haitian population in that country.

    3. Online Voting: Exploring the option for mail-in ballots for those who cannot physically visit the embassy or consulate.

    1. Representation: Ensuring that all Haitians, including those living abroad, are represented in the political process.

    2. Engagement: Increasing political engagement among the Haitian diaspora, who bring diverse perspectives and experiences.

    3. Strengthening Democracy: A more inclusive voting system strengthens Haiti's democratic fabric, making it more robust and representative.

    4. Global Influence: Leveraging the global presence of Haitians to advocate for and support Haiti’s interests on the international stage.
